Reedley California - Our Home for 7 Months of the Year

Reedley is a small town of approximately 15,000 people located in the San Joaquin Valley in the center of California. Our Valley is approximately 180 km X 500 km. The economy is based on Agriculture, which is big business in our area. We produce 53 million boxes of Peaches, Plums and Nectarines every year. Other main crops include: grapes (wine, table & raisin), oranges, apricots, kiwis, apples, pears, almonds, as well as various other fruits and vegetables.

The view from our back yard
Our house is a 10 minute drive outside of Reedley. We are lucky to live near the east side of the valley and enjoy beautiful views of the nearby mountains.

We are centrally located in California which is ideal for visiting all the natural wonders that California has to offer. Reedley is between Los Angeles and San Fransisco: both about 3 1/2 hours away. We are within 2 hours drive of Yosemite , Central California Beaches ; and 45 minutes from great camping in the Sequoia National Park. Northern & Southern California are a little further, but also offer great places to visit and camp.

Spring Season
Our climate is quite different than the common image of California. Spring is beautiful with mild temperatures and blossoms on all the fruit trees. Summer turns unbearably hot with temperatures up to 45 degrees(C) or around 113(F). Thank goodness there's almost no humidity. In fall, leaves change colors, the air is crisp and we all wait anxiously for rain. Winter is mostly foggy and grey with occasional freezes at night and highs around 12 degrees(C) or 55(F). We only receive around 11 inches (28 cm) of rain a year, so the crops are grown with water from melting snow in the nearby mountains.
