Matagalpa and Jinotega are located in the mountainous, coffee growing region of northern Nicaragua. They are both nice, clean towns with friendly people and a cool climate. There is not a lot to do here but it's a nice break from the heat in the lowlands. |

The main attraction here is a visit to La Selva Negra . Located on the road between Matagalpa and Jinotega it has hiking trails through beautiful forest.
