Granada

Granada is a beautiful colonial city located on the Northwestern side of Lago de Nicargua. It is the center of the conservative party in Nicaragua (whereas Leon is the base for the more progressive party).

View from Convent & Church of San Fransisco. There is local artwork displayed here as well as a really nice museum.

Beautiful buildings in the town center.

There are plenty of cheap places to stay and lots of cathedrals, historical buildings and museums to visit. Nearby attractions include visiting small islands in Lago de Nicaragua, Volcanoes Masaya & Mombacho, shopping in San Juan de Oriente, and swimming in Laguna de Apoyo.

We didn't have a lot of time here and wished we'd had more in order to explore the surrounding area.
