After arriving in Bangkok this year we had to wait five days for our Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos visas. So, off we went to one of our favorite snorkling spots, Ko Tao.
The island of Ko Tao is mostly rocky shores with small sand beaches scattered about. We headed to the east side of the island to a little cove we stayed at before.
The harbor enterance.
Things have really changed since we were here last. Five years ago, you could not see more than 4 cabanas from this point and no boats were allowed into the bay. Now there is a dive center with boats coming and going and cabanas everywhere. The beach was trashy and the coral has been damaged.
Eastside of Ko Tao.
Since it was too crowded on the east side, we decided to look for a better place to snorkle.
We found a new place to play on the west side of the island just north of the main beach area.
The west side.
We stayed at some basic bungalows with snorkling just at the waters edge. Visibility was really good and the coral & fish were beautiful.

Gorgeous sunsets were an added bonus to being on the west side of the island.
