Mui Ne

Mui Ne is a wonderful, quiet beach to stop at in Southern Vietnam. Most people here still make a living fishing rather than from tourists. There are all kinds of lodging options (from all inclusive resorts to basic bungalows), yet it feels undeveloped and there are no vendors or people hassling you along the beach.

Fishing from Bamboo Basket Boats is a lot of work...

and we never saw anyone catch a fish!

The main beach stretches for miles along a cove in the South China Sea and is backed by huge sand dunes. Though the sand dunes directly behind the main beach are not so impressive, you can hire bikes (\\$0.50 for a half day) and ride 1/2 hour to the more impressive dunes. They are really beautiful (though there is trash on them). There are lots of food/drink stalls along the roadside where you can park your bike and rent plastic "sleds" for a slide down the dunes.

Just before the food stalls (across the road from the dunes) is the "Red River" - a natural spring that flows from the ground here. It's very small, but has created some really interesting formations and cliffs. If you continue down the road a bit further there is a gorgeous beach with no one on it - bring a suit and a picnic and have a great afternoon.

Flowing into the ocean on the main beach, the Fairy Spring is a stream which flows from natural springs underneath the dunes. It's a beautiful, easy walk to hike up the stream past interesting rock formations and multi colored sand dunes.

We made it up to a really nice waterfall, but not all the way to the source. The cool water is great to walk in, though we would suggest you enter the stream at the bridge on the road as the section from there to the beach has a lot of trash in it.

An added plus to Mui Ne is that even though you are on the east coast of Vietnam the beach actually faces southwest enough for sunsets.

Beautiful sunsets

We stayed at the Thai Hoa Tourist hotel - one of 2 hotels our TM Brothers bus was willing to drop us at. It turned out to be great. It's right on the beach and very close to the Fairy Spring. Bamboo Bungalows with fan and mosquito net were \\$8.00 (very clean shared bath)/$10.00 (private bath). The restaurant was good and the family that ran it was really nice.
