Cartagena Info Page

We really enjoyed our time in Cartagena. The colonial buildings in the old town are beautiful. Sundays are quiet (less traffic) and the best time to walk around. Also, the Gold Museum is free on Sundays.

PLACES TO STAY:
Hotel Viena: $6.00 for double with shared bath. Also have dorm and triples. The owner, Hans, is extremely helpful and friendly - a reason in itself to stay here. The hotel is clean and has a wonderful kitchen, internet, lots of travel info and free coffee all day. A lot of travellers are here to party and it can be noisy, but out of 7 nights we were there only 1 was loud.
Hotel Santander: Located just around the corner from the Viena it's a cheap place to stay at $5.00 for a double. It's not a travellers hotel, but is fine when places are full.

PLACES TO EAT: We cooked most of our meals so canīt recommend many restaurants. El Rincon Trieste has pizza, pasta and a tattoo shop. Itīs a bit strange but the food is pretty good. There are many good restaurants in the old town, but they are a bit pricey.

FOOD: There are plenty of supermarkets with lots of variety. You can buy loads of fresh fruits and vegetables in the street market. Beer prices were crazy when we were here but the supermarket sells them for cheap.

INTERNET: There are places all over town with internet for about \$2.00/hour. Hotel Viena is a bit cheaper between 1 and 3 p.m.

BEACH: Playa Bocagrande is a short walk from the old town. Itīs not great, but not a bad place to hang out for the day. Playa Paraiso is a short bus ride from Cartagena.

OTHER PLACES TO VISIT:

Playa Blanca
Volcan Totumo (Mud volcano)
