Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is a beautiful white sand beach less than an hour boat ride away from Cartagena. A perfect place to relax and to meet other travellers.

We stayed at a fantastic place called Wittenberg. Gilbert and his wife Ana are wonderful and make you feel right at home. You sleep in hammocks with mosquito nets (\$2.50) and can buy meals. Camping here is also an option.

You canīt help but relax - a little swim, a little sun and always a hammock to rest in. If you want to be more active there are some nice walks or you can pick up a game of soccer (football) with some locals.

The gringos won this game :)

There are a couple of places to snorkel. The coral is quite damaged, but there were some nice fish. Right next to the place we stayed is a small lagoon that is great for birdwatching.

General info:

- You can reach Playa Blanca by bus (3-4 hours) or by boat (1 hour). Check the price of the boat at Hotel Casa Viena in Cartagena. You will have to bargain hard to get a fair price when leaving Cartagena.
-There is no fresh water source. You can buy 5 liters of fresh water at the hotel to wash with for about 1/2 a dollar (1000 pesos)
-Bring some warm clothes and sheet or sleeping bag as it gets quite cool at night. As long as the breeze is blowing (which is usually) there arenīt any bugs, but bring repellent to be safe.
