Lago de Chicoval |

Lago de Chicoval is a beautiful crater lake that you can easily hike to in a day from Xela. |

Down by the lake there are campsites located along a trail around the lake if you decide you'd like to stay the night (we will next time). It's magical to sit and watch the clouds roll in over the crater edges, swirl down towards the lake and float out of the crater again. |

The trail is very easy...it's a road for vehicles most of the way and then there are steps down into the crater. It's also beautiful, with unusual wild flowers along the way. |

To get here take a bus from Xela to La Estancia (about 1 1/2 hours). From La Estancia it's a 2 hour hike to the lake. There are plenty of signs to keep you headed in the right direction. Entrance fee is 10 Quetzales. |
