California/Ometepe
U.S. of America / Nicaragua C.A.

There are 2 places in the world where we spend a great deal of our time.

Though we spend most of our time in these two places, we set aside 2 months to travel to other parts of the world.

Springtime in California

Isla de Ometepe

Reedley, California is where we work and where our families live.
Springtime is wonderful when the valley is green from winter rains and is filled with the blossoms of fruit trees. The air is clear and the snow covered peaks of the Sierra Nevadas provide a spectacular backdrop for the blossoms and wildflowers. This is when we arrive back in California and try to fit in some camping before work begins.
Summer means work. We work in the agriculture here, and though the job is not perfect, it is very nice to be working outdoors with the various types of fruits, vegetables, and nuts (which we munch on all day long) and it frees us to leave the country for the other half of the year.
As fall arrives, anticipation grows, knowing that work is ending and it's time to head out into the world again.

Ometepe, Nicaragua is one of our favorite places in the world and where we head for fall and winter. The nature is unspoiled and beautiful, no need for tours here where the animals are abundant and easy to see. The people are sweet and kind, they happily welcome the strange gringos into their community. They believe that everyone has something to offer.
The climate in Nicaragua is much more temperate than where we live in California, and though they lack the diversity of fruits and vegetables the potential in Nicaragua far surpasses that of California.

Our 1999-00 Visit was our first visit to Ometepe, and left us with a strong desire to return and possibly settle here.
During our 2000-01 Visit, we explored the island more. Everything confirmed our love of this place, and so we decided to purchase
Property.
During the winter of 2001-02 we began work on our land as well as travelling to Asia to gather fruit seeds unavailable in Nicaragua.
We spent all of the 2002-03 winter on Ometepe - enjoying farming and working on other projects.

2003-2004 will be a year of finishing projects. Our guesthouse is already fit for 2 or 3 people, but there are a few more thing to do before it will be completely finished. There are also other projects that will need maintainance or some finish work, but for the most part, this will be a year for farming and receiving guests.
