Santa Marta is located right on the coast. It is much more easygoing than Cartagena. Though the beach here isn't great there are lots of nice beaches nearby. |

Santa Marta is a great base for visiting the surrounding area: Carpe Diem Taganga Tayrona Park La Ciudad Perdida Ruins and the Sierra Nevada mountains. |
